Coach Joshua

What's up! My name is Joshua Skelton. I am currently attending Kenwood Academy seeking to major in psychology once I'm in college. I was first introduced to A Step Ahead Chess through After School Matters and as soon as things started rolling; I loved the energy, lessons, and advice that I received from the coaches. In my favor, they also appreciated the energy I gave back to the program causing me to become a coach for this organization.

I started to play chess when I was 11 and was taught by my grandmother. One day while I was visiting her in Virginia, I was looking at games on her computer where I encountered Chess. From then on, I really started to enjoy the game. It was a stress reliever and fun to play whenever I had nothing to do. Through Chess, the game has helped me get through so many difficult situations in my life and I feel like it can help out so many more people as well. That's why I am glad to be a part of this coaching team and to make sure that I can assist in creating great chess players. Go Stormers!
