Coach Wilton

Wilton Cartwright, born and raised in the Bahamas, is one of A Step Ahead Chess’ first members. Wilton graduated from Bishop Michael Eldon High School on distinction and upon graduation was offered over $300,000 in scholarships! Coach Wilton now attends Philanders Smith College in Little Rock, Arkansas on a FULL scholarship where he is studying Accounting and Computer Science. 

As a pilot member of A Step Ahead Chess and the only student who has attended every international chess trip the club has hosted, Wilton has experienced, first hand, the benefits that chess and exposure to travel can have on a young mind. As a Virtual Chess Instrucotr, Wilton is super excited to share his experiences and looks forward to giving back to the program that presented so many opportunities to him as a youth.
