The A Step Ahead Chess Family Celebrates Students who have superseded the standards of chess and academic excellence.

The A Step Ahead Chess Family is excited to announce Ethan Tran as our October Student of the Month! Ethan Tran began his chess journey with ASAC in the summer of 2021. During his time with ASAC, Ethan has devoted countless hours to bettering his chess skills and competition strategies. At just 5 years old, Ethan placed 3rd in the novice category of two ASAC Championships. He has also won an award for courage for his summer baseball team, Nacho Lions. With this, Ethan has blossomed as he navigates the art of both competing and connecting with his opponents over a mutual love for chess.

Beyond the board, Ethan has found that chess has helped him with his problem solving, critical thinking, self confidence, decision making, communication skills, and overcoming shyness. Ethan has found that he is more confident in his decisions, sharing his perspective, and considering the bigger picture before he acts. The culmination of Ethan’s achievements and his ability to apply chess skills to the world around him make Ethan Tran our October Student of the Month.
